Pelagodoxa (Pelagodoxa mesocarpa) is a rare and valuable palm species belonging to the Arecaceae family. This plant serves as a unique object for botanical collections and specialized tropical nurseries, distinguished by its unusual appearance and specific ecological requirements.

The natural range of this species is extremely limited and historically associated with the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. The plant grows in humid tropical forest conditions, preferring areas with consistently high humidity levels and protection from strong winds, which defines its narrow ecological niche in the wild.

Botanically, the crop is characterized by a robust, often solitary trunk and broad, fan-shaped leaves that can reach significant dimensions. A notable feature of the species is its fruit: they possess a specific mesocarp structure, which inspired the species' specific epithet. Flowering and fruiting require strictly defined climatic conditions typical of the equatorial belt.

The agrotechnics of Pelagodoxa mesocarpa are complex and require the maintenance of consistently high air temperatures (no lower than 20–25°C) and high soil moisture. The plant is extremely sensitive to dry air and temperature fluctuations; therefore, for industrial or collection purposes, it is cultivated primarily in climate-controlled greenhouses or in regions with favorable tropical climates. The soil mix should be rich in organic matter, with excellent aeration and drainage properties to prevent root rot.
