Smooth beardtongue (Penstemon laevigatus Aiton) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Plantaginaceae family. While not a conventional field crop for food production, it holds significant value in commercial floriculture and ornamental nursery production due to its resilience and attractive inflorescences, making it a staple in landscape design.

The species is native to the eastern parts of North America, where it naturally inhabits moist meadows and woodland margins. This geographical origin dictates the plant's preference for stable, temperate climates.
