Swamp bay

Swamp bay (Persea palustris) is an evergreen tree belonging to the Lauraceae family. While it is taxonomically related to the culinary avocado (Persea americana), it possesses unique physiological adaptations that allow it to thrive in saturated, boggy soil conditions where other trees would succumb to root rot and hypoxia.

The species is native to the southeastern United States, primarily inhabiting coastal plains, floodplains, and swampy ecosystems.
