Farrer spruce (Latin: Picea farreri) is a distinct and rare species of conifer belonging to the Pinaceae family. Identified by its unique morphology, this evergreen tree is a subject of interest for botanists and arboriculturists worldwide. Named after the explorer Reginald Farrer, the tree represents a specialized niche in the genus Picea.
The native range of this spruce is concentrated in the high-altitude mountainous regions of northeastern Myanmar and the Yunnan province of China. Growing at elevations between 2400 and 3000 meters, the species thrives in cool, cloud-forested environments. These native habitats are characterized by high atmospheric moisture and cool temperatures, which are essential for the species' health.
Botanically, the Farrer spruce is distinguished by its narrow, conical crown and pendulous (drooping) branchlets. The needles are notably sharp and point forward, often displaying a glaucous or bluish-green hue. The tree can reach heights of up to 35 meters under optimal wild conditions. Its reproductive cones are cylindrical and typically shed their scales as they mature.

It prefers cool climates and requires soil that is rich in organic matter, acidic, and exceptionally well-draining.
