Jack's poplar (Populus jackii) is a recognized hybrid resulting from the natural cross-pollination between balsam poplar (P. balsamifera) and eastern cottonwood (P. deltoides). Belonging to the Salicaceae family, this deciduous tree is widely valued in forestry for its rapid growth rates and high potential for biomass production.

The origin of this hybrid is rooted in North America, where the native ranges of its parent species overlap. Over time, it has been introduced to various temperate regions globally. The species thrives best in areas that offer deep, fertile soils and consistent moisture levels, making it a preferred choice for commercial plantations in suitable climates.

Botanically, Jack's poplar exhibits a combination of traits from both parents, including large, aromatic leaves with a leathery texture and a vigorous growth habit.
