Description
Intermediate self-heal (lat. Prunella intermedia) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It is a natural hybrid species resulting from the cross-pollination of Prunella vulgaris and Prunella grandiflora, exhibiting morphological traits that bridge the gap between its parent species in both size and floral intensity.
Originating in the temperate regions of Europe, this plant thrives in diverse environments ranging from forest margins to cultivated meadows. In an agricultural context, it is recognized for its adaptability and hardiness. It is well-suited for inclusion in biodiversity programs, sustainable farming projects, and medicinal herb gardens, provided the site conditions meet its requirements.
Botanically, the plant develops an upright stem reaching heights of 30–40 cm with opposite, simple leaves. Its most distinctive feature is the spike-like inflorescence packed with violet-purple bilabiate flowers, which are highly attractive to pollinators.
