The origin of this fern is rooted in the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. In its natural habitat, it thrives in shaded, humid environments, often colonizing riverbanks, rocky crevices, or the forest floor where it benefits from the high moisture retention of organic-rich substrates and protected light levels.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its pinnate fronds with segment shapes that appear lunar, contributing to its common name. The creeping rhizome system allows the plant to form dense colonies, while reproduction typically occurs via spores released from sori situated on the underside of the foliage. This complex structure makes it a fascinating specimen for both botanical study and horticulture.

Agrotechnical requirements for successful cultivation include a strict light regime, avoiding direct sun which can easily scorch the fronds. The soil must be kept consistently moist but well-drained, utilizing a mix of peat moss and perlite to maintain an acidic pH balance. Humidity is a critical factor; growers are advised to maintain levels above 60% to prevent necrosis of the frond margins.

The economic value of this fern is focused on the ornamental sector, including houseplant production and terrarium design. Like many ferns, it is susceptible to specific biological pressures that require consistent monitoring. Typical issues for the grower include:
