Its natural habitat includes stony slopes and alpine meadows where it thrives in cool, moist environments with high light intensity but low average soil temperatures throughout the year.

Botanically, the plant is distinguished by its unique leaf structure, which resembles that of the genus Bupleurum, hence its scientific name. It produces solitary, bright yellow flowers characteristic of the Ranunculus genus. The plant grows in compact clumps, showcasing a robust root system that helps it anchor effectively in thin, rocky substrates often found in high-altitude terrain.
