Dyer's rocket

Dyer's rocket (Reseda luteola L.) is a biennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Resedaceae family. It is characterized by a taproot and a rosette of leaves in its first year, followed by the development of tall, spike-like racemes during the second year. The plant typically reaches a height of 1 to 1.5 meters and produces numerous tiny yellow flowers during the blooming season.

Originating from the Mediterranean region, this plant has adapted to various temperate climates across Europe and Western Asia. It thrives in well-drained, alkaline, and nutrient-poor soils, frequently colonizing disturbed sites, calcareous grasslands, and rocky slopes. Its ability to tolerate dry conditions makes it a resilient choice for sustainable cultivation systems.

Cultivation requires minimal intervention, provided the site has optimal sunlight exposure and proper soil aeration. Seeds are sown directly into the field in early spring. Maintenance mainly involves controlling weeds during the early establishment phase and ensuring the soil remains light and well-drained to prevent the root system from rotting. Harvesting occurs during the flowering stage to maximize dye concentration.
