Rhipsalis cereoides is a fascinating member of the Cactaceae family, recognized for its distinct growth habit as an epiphyte. Unlike desert cacti, this species originates from the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it thrives in high-humidity environments attached to tree branches, utilizing a shallow root system.

The native habitat of Rhipsalis cereoides dictates its specific biological needs. As an understory plant, it has adapted to filtered sunlight rather than direct exposure. This makes it an excellent candidate for indoor cultivation, provided it receives bright, indirect light and protection from harsh midday sun which can cause epidermis damage.

Botanically, this species is defined by its segment structure, where the stems are composed of distinct, cylindrical nodes that mimic the appearance of columnar cereus cacti. In terms of usage, Rhipsalis cereoides is strictly an ornamental crop valued by collectors of succulent plants. It is relatively easy to propagate through stem cuttings. Growers should remain vigilant against common pests such as mealybugs, which tend to cluster in the joints between segments, and treat them with mild horticultural soaps if an infestation occurs.
