The root system is shallow and fibrous, necessitating a very specific, well-draining environment to remain healthy and vibrant throughout the seasons.

Success in cultivation depends on providing acidic, humus-rich soil with excellent drainage. Gardeners should ensure the planting site is semi-shaded, protecting the shrub from the harshest direct midday sunlight. Constant but moderate moisture is essential; the soil should never become waterlogged, as poor aeration often leads to fatal root decay.
