Anemone-flowered rose

The anemone-flowered rose (Rosa anemoniflora) is an ornamental shrub species belonging to the Rosaceae family. This species is distinguished by its unique flower shape, which visually resembles an anemone, giving it its common and botanical name. In horticulture, this crop is valued for the elegance of its inflorescences and its ability to form voluminous, sprawling bushes.

This species originates from East Asian regions, predominantly China. In its natural habitat, the plant grows in wooded areas and mountain slopes, where the climate is characterized by moderate humidity and seasonal temperature fluctuations. Today, the crop is grown in ornamental horticulture worldwide, mainly in regions with temperate and subtropical climates.

Botanically, Rosa anemoniflora is a deciduous shrub with flexible stems that can reach significant lengths under favorable conditions. The leaves are imparipinnate, typically featuring a dark green hue and a characteristic serrated edge. The flowers are characterized by a semi-double or single structure, with a center consisting of numerous contrasting stamens that mimic the appearance of anemone flowers.

For successful cultivation of the anemone-flowered rose, well-drained, fertile loamy soils with a neutral or slightly acidic pH are required. The crop prefers sunny sites protected from strong winds, though it can tolerate light shading during midday hours.
