Sagina pilifera, commonly known as Irish Moss, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family. This plant is highly valued in horticulture for its ability to form dense, vibrant green cushions, providing an excellent low-maintenance alternative to traditional lawn grasses in specific garden areas.

The plant originates from the mountainous regions of Southern Europe, particularly the island of Corsica. Its natural habitat includes stony slopes and crevices, which has contributed to its hardiness and adaptability.
