Often referred to as the "butterfly flower" or "poor man's orchid," this species is highly valued in horticulture for its intricate, orchid-like blooms that display a wide range of vibrant colors, often featuring intricate spotting and veining on the petals.

The plant is native to the mountain regions of Chile and Argentina. Due to its natural habitat, it thrives in climates characterized by cool nights and moderate daytime temperatures.
