Hard grass (Latin name Sclerochloa dura) is an annual grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. Often characterized as a resilient pioneer species, it is frequently found in environments that have undergone significant soil compaction, such as cattle paths, farmyards, and roadside verges where competitive pressure from other grasses is limited.

The origin of this species is linked to the Mediterranean and Eurasian regions. Over time, it has established itself across vast territories, adapting to diverse climatic zones. While it is not typically cultivated as a primary agricultural crop, it is a significant botanical element of disturbed grassland ecosystems and can be found globally in temperate environments.
