It is valued in agriculture for its edible taproots, which are rich in carbohydrates, specifically inulin, making them an excellent choice for health-conscious consumers.

The plant originates from the mountainous and steppe regions of Central Asia. It is highly adapted to continental climates, characterized by significant temperature fluctuations between seasons.
