Balearic skullcap

Balearic skullcap (Scutellaria balearica) is a diminutive, mat-forming perennial plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It is highly valued in horticulture for its ability to create dense, vibrant carpets of foliage, punctuated by delicate, helmet-shaped flowers that are characteristic of the entire Scutellaria genus.

The species originates from the Balearic Islands, which defines its specific ecological needs. In its native habitat, it typically thrives in rocky crevices and gravelly soils. This geographical background makes the plant particularly well-suited for rock gardens and Mediterranean-style landscapes, where it can withstand periods of dry weather once established.
