Senna covesii, commonly known as Coves' cassia, is a perennial shrub belonging to the Fabaceae family. This species is native to the desert regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, where it thrives in harsh, arid environments that challenge most agricultural crops.

The plant originates from desert scrublands and open rocky areas. Its natural distribution is characterized by high temperatures and sporadic, low-intensity rainfall. Because of these origins, the plant has developed specialized mechanisms to survive in environments with high evapotranspiration rates.
