Mountain sermountain (Seseli montanum) is a perennial herb belonging to the Apiaceae family. It is recognized for its hardiness and aromatic qualities, making it a valuable plant in specific agricultural niches. The plant is characterized by its woody base, finely divided foliage, and compound umbel inflorescences typical of the carrot family.

The species originates from the mountainous regions of Southern and Central Europe. Its natural habitat is typically rocky terrain, slopes, and limestone cliffs. Because of this, the plant has evolved to thrive in environments with poor soil quality and high sunlight exposure, adapting well to controlled cultivation in similar ecological conditions.

Botanically, the plant features glaucous, deeply incised leaves that provide a distinct aesthetic appeal. It develops a deep taproot, which is a critical adaptation for sourcing water in dry climates. During the flowering stage, the plant produces dense clusters of small, white-to-cream flowers that serve as a source of nectar for various beneficial insects.

Agricultural requirements for Seseli montanum prioritize well-draining, calcareous soils and maximum sun exposure. It is highly intolerant of waterlogged soil, which can rapidly lead to crown rot.
