Sand catchfly (lat. Silene conica) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family. Native to Europe and Western Asia, this species has successfully adapted to various open and sunny habitats. In farming, management involves proper crop rotation and the use of herbicides, as the plant can rapidly proliferate if soil conditions allow for successful germination and growth during the early season.
While not a recognized crop, it plays a role in the ecology of field margins. However, as an agricultural pest, it competes for resources with main crops. Common threats to its population include fungal diseases such as rusts and various insect pests.
