Fairy grass (Sporobolus caroli) is a perennial grass species belonging to the Poaceae family. Known for its resilience, it is widely recognized in its native regions as a valuable forage plant for rangelands. The grass forms dense clumps, contributing to the structural stability of the vegetation cover in semi-arid environments where other crops often fail to survive.

Native to Australia, Fairy grass is perfectly adapted to climates characterized by extreme heat and erratic rainfall. It is extensively distributed across rangelands where it serves as a critical feed source for livestock. Its natural habitat includes diverse soil types, ranging from sandy plains to heavier clay-loam soils, provided they offer adequate drainage to prevent root issues during sporadic heavy rainfall events.

Botanically, Sporobolus caroli is characterized by slender, erect stems and fine, narrow leaves. The inflorescence is a delicate, diffuse panicle that appears during the growing season. The root system is deep and expansive, allowing the plant to reach deep soil moisture reserves. This morphological adaptation is the key factor behind the plant's ability to maintain productivity when surface moisture is depleted.

Agronomically, the cultivation of Fairy grass requires minimal intervention once established. It thrives in sunny locations and does not require frequent irrigation or excessive fertilization.
