Ukrainian feather grass

Ukrainian feather grass (lat. Stipa ucrainica) is a perennial grass species belonging to the Poaceae family. It is a fundamental component of steppe ecosystems, well-adapted to surviving in harsh, arid climates where other herbaceous plants struggle to establish themselves.

The plant is native to the steppe regions of Eastern Europe, particularly across Ukraine and surrounding areas. Its natural distribution is primarily defined by open grasslands with sufficient exposure to direct sunlight. It has evolved to thrive in environments with distinct wet springs and hot, dry summers.

Botanically, Stipa ucrainica is recognized by its dense, tufted growth habit and narrow, rolled leaf blades designed to minimize transpiration.
