Signet marigold

Signet marigold (Tagetes tenuifolia) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Unlike common African or French marigolds, this species is highly valued for its delicate, fern-like foliage and small, prolific blooms that create a dense, rounded mound of color during the growing season.

Originating from Mexico, this species has been introduced worldwide as a popular ornamental plant. Because of its tropical origins, it thrives in warm climates and requires full sun to achieve its maximum growth potential, being highly sensitive to frost which typically ends its lifecycle in temperate zones.

The plant exhibits remarkable botanical traits, including compact growth habits and a continuous production of flowers throughout the summer and autumn. Its leaves contain glands that release a distinct, citrus-like aroma when crushed, which is a key adaptation for deterring various garden pests.
