Suaeda ifniensis is a perennial halophytic plant belonging to the Amaranthaceae family. It is recognized for its extraordinary ability to thrive in saline environments, such as coastal deserts and inland salt flats, where high mineral concentration prevents the growth of most conventional crops.

The species originates from the coastal desert regions of Southwestern Morocco (specifically the Ifni region) and certain parts of the Canary Islands. It is naturally adapted to arid climates characterized by severe water scarcity, intense solar radiation, and soils with high salinity, positioning it as a focus for research in sustainable agriculture in extreme zones.

Botanically, this plant displays succulent characteristics with thick, fleshy leaves designed to retain water and manage high salt concentrations. Its root system is exceptionally efficient at extracting moisture from compacted and salty substrates. The plant's epidermis contains specialized salt-excreting glands, allowing it to maintain metabolic homeostasis despite high levels of sodium chloride and other salts in the soil.
