Annual sea-blite

Annual sea-blite (Suaeda maritima) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Amaranthaceae family. Known for its remarkable salt tolerance, this halophyte thrives in high-salinity environments where common agricultural crops cannot survive. It is an essential species for sustainable development in coastal and arid regions affected by soil salinization.

The native range of Suaeda maritima includes coastal areas, salt marshes, and estuaries throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. It is naturally adapted to fluctuating moisture levels and highly saline substrates, which has allowed it to dominate niche habitats where competition from non-halophytic vegetation is virtually nonexistent.

Botanically, the plant features succulent, linear leaves that store moisture, helping the plant maintain internal osmotic balance. The root system is relatively shallow, designed to extract minerals directly from the saline upper soil layer.

Agronomic requirements for cultivating sea-blite center on maintaining high soil moisture levels, even if the water is brackish. It thrives in well-lit areas and generally does not require complex fertilization, as it is adapted to nutrient-poor saline soils. Careful management of water irrigation is necessary to ensure consistent growth during the initial vegetative stage.
