The plant originates from the Thar Desert and surrounding dry areas. Its natural distribution is largely concentrated in the tropical and subtropical regions of South Asia. Over time, it has become a vital component of the local ecosystem, providing necessary shade and acting as a primary biological barrier against soil erosion in desertified lands.

Botanically, the tree is characterized by its distinctively wavy-margined, leathery leaves and vibrant bell-shaped flowers, which can range from yellow to deep orange.
