The Sweet prayer plant (Thaumatococcus daniellii) is a rhizomatous perennial herb belonging to the family Marantaceae. It is globally recognized for its fruit, which contains thaumatin, a protein-based sweetener thousands of times sweeter than sucrose. This unique biological characteristic makes it a plant of significant interest for the food and beverage industry.
The species is native to the rainforests of West Africa, where it thrives in shaded, humid environments.
