Widely recognized in forestry as the Indonesian cedar or Suren, this species is highly valued for its rapid biomass accumulation and high-quality timber. Originating from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, the species is native to countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and parts of the Indian subcontinent. It thrives in humid environments with distinct seasonal patterns. As a light-demanding species, it requires ample space to ensure the development of a straight, branch-free bole, which is essential for commercial timber quality.
