Description
The Japanese tree lilac (Syringa reticulata) is a deciduous species belonging to the Oleaceae (olive) family. Unlike the common shrub-like lilacs, this species grows into a small, sturdy tree that can reach heights of 8 to 10 meters. It is highly valued for its elegant, spreading canopy and distinctive reddish-brown bark, which adds visual interest to the garden even in winter.
Native to eastern Asia, including regions in Japan, Korea, China, and the Russian Far East, the tree typically inhabits mixed forests and riverbanks. Its evolution in these environments has endowed it with excellent hardiness and the ability to thrive in various soil types, provided that adequate moisture levels are maintained during the initial establishment phase.
