Mountain tulip

The mountain tulip (Tulipa montana) is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the Liliaceae family. It is a distinctive botanical species known for its resilience and unique adaptation to high-altitude and rocky environments, making it a fascinating subject for both botanists and specialized horticulturists.

The native distribution area of Tulipa montana encompasses the arid mountain regions of Central Asia, specifically parts of Iran and Afghanistan. These habitats are characterized by thin, rocky soils and extreme seasonal climate variations. As a result, the plant has evolved to complete its growth cycle quickly before the onset of the hot and dry summer months.

Botanically, the species is distinguished by its short stature, which prevents damage from high-altitude winds. Its foliage is slender, often displaying a glaucous coating that minimizes moisture loss through transpiration.
