Dwarf bulrush (Latin: Typha minima) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Typhaceae family. Unlike its taller relatives, this species is noted for its miniature form, making it a highly desirable choice for small water gardens, pond edges, and specialized aquatic landscaping projects.

The native distribution of this species encompasses temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It typically thrives in wet habitats, such as the margins of rivers, ponds, and marshy areas. Due to its adaptability, it has been successfully introduced into horticultural practice as a stable and low-maintenance aquatic ornamental.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by slender, grass-like foliage that creates a delicate, tufted appearance. Its most distinctive feature is the spherical or oval-shaped brown flower spike that emerges in the summer. The plant usually reaches a height of only 30 to 70 cm, which distinguishes it significantly from common cattail varieties.

Cultivation requirements involve maintaining the plant in shallow water, typically at a depth of 5 to 15 cm. It requires full sunlight to maintain its compact growth habit and produce vibrant flower spikes. The soil should be nutrient-rich but well-aerated; in garden ponds, it is often kept in baskets to prevent uncontrolled spreading of the rhizomes.
