Dark Sea Lettuce

Dark Sea Lettuce (Ulvaria obscura) is a species of green macroalgae belonging to the family Ulvaceae. Known for its distinct morphological characteristics, it thrives in marine environments where it contributes significantly to primary production and the nutrient cycle of coastal waters.

This species is widely distributed throughout the northern temperate regions, typically found in the intertidal and subtidal zones. It prefers hard substrates such as rocks and boulders, which provide the necessary stability to withstand tidal forces in the wild.

Potential pests include various gastropods and crustacean grazers that can significantly reduce biomass; therefore, management strategies often involve the use of protective netting or specific site selection to mitigate herbivory.
