Because of its shallow root system, the plant relies heavily on a thick layer of mulch to keep roots cool and retain consistent moisture levels.

In terms of usage, Vaccinium ciliatum is largely cultivated for ornamental purposes in botanical gardens or specialized collections, although it offers potential for small-scale fruit production. Typical pests and diseases include root rot, often caused by poor drainage, and common fungal leaf spots.
