This species is native to the southeastern United States, primarily found in the states of North and South Carolina. It thrives in well-drained, sandy, and acidic soils, typically occupying open habitats where it can receive sufficient sunlight, showcasing its evolutionary adaptation to nutrient-poor but acidic coastal environments.
