The native range of this species extends across various regions in Europe and Asia. It is highly sensitive to moisture availability, which dictates its natural habitat distribution. In agricultural settings, it is sometimes classified as a nuisance plant in irrigation systems, as its rapid growth can potentially obstruct water flow in small channels and rice paddies.
