The plant originates from the Eastern Mediterranean region, specifically Cyprus, where it grows in its native habitat. Its agricultural cultivation is concentrated in arid and semi-arid regions where its high tolerance for heat and low water availability makes it a valuable candidate for local crop diversification and forage production.
