Volkameria inermis is a hardy evergreen shrub belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Historically, this species was widely categorized under the genus Clerodendrum, though modern botanical classification recognizes it as a distinct entity. It is characterized by its dense, woody structure, which makes it a preferred choice for ornamental purposes in tropical and subtropical regions.

The plant originates from the coastal regions of the Indo-Pacific, extending from East Africa to Australia. Because of its native coastal habitat, it has evolved a remarkable tolerance to saline environments and wind-swept areas. Botanically, Volkameria inermis features glossy, opposite leaves and small, fragrant white flowers with protruding, long purple stamens.
