Gigantochloa apus, commonly known as Watho, is a large, sturdy bamboo species belonging to the Poaceae family. This perennial grass develops into large, dense clumps, characterized by high culm density and exceptional flexibility, making it a staple crop for both rural and industrial sectors.
The native distribution of this species spans the humid tropical regions of Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Gigantochloa apus thrives in tropical climates characterized by high rainfall and warm temperatures, typically found at elevations ranging from sea level up to 1500 meters.
