Blunt-lobed cliff fern

The blunt-lobed cliff fern (Woodsia obtusa) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Woodsiaceae family. This species is recognized for its elegant, delicate fronds that grow in attractive rosettes. It is highly valued in horticulture for its resilience and ability to thrive in shaded environments where other plants might struggle.

Native to North America, the plant is typically found growing on rocky ledges, outcrops, and within forest floors. Botanically, Woodsia obtusa features a short rhizome and triangular-lanceolate fronds that can grow up to 40 centimeters in height. The plant requires consistent moisture but is sensitive to waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root issues. Applying a light layer of mulch helps in retaining soil moisture while providing a natural look to the planting site.

In landscaping, this fern is excellent for rock gardens, shaded borders, and naturalizing forest-themed landscapes. It is generally resistant to most pests and diseases.
