Xylopia ferruginea is a tropical evergreen tree belonging to the Annonaceae family. This species is characterized by its slender trunk and dense canopy, making it a typical representative of moist tropical rainforests. Within plant taxonomy, this genus is primarily known for the aromatic properties present in the bark and seeds of many of its species.

The natural distribution area of this crop covers the humid tropical zones of Southeast Asia, including regions in Malaysia and Indonesia.
