The origin of this species is strictly limited to the Soconusco region in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. It thrives in the understory of tropical forests, where the dense canopy provides protection against intense solar radiation. Due to its limited native habitat, the plant has evolved to be highly specialized, preferring stable temperatures and high environmental humidity.
