The virus primarily affects garlic crops (Allium sativum). It is frequently found in mixed infections alongside other viruses, forming a complex that significantly impacts plant vitality. Because it often exists in subclinical forms, asymptomatic plants can unknowingly serve as reservoirs for the virus in field settings.
Symptoms of Allexivirus pintoi infection include leaf mosaic, chlorotic streaking, and systemic yellowing of the foliage. Infected plants may exhibit stunted growth, leaf curling, and a reduction in the size and quality of the bulbs.
