Alfalfa allexivirus (Allexivirus sigmamedicagonis) is a plant virus belonging to the Betaflexiviridae family. As an obligate parasite, it infects alfalfa crops, causing chronic systemic infection that often leads to reduced longevity of perennial forage stands.
The primary host for this virus is Medicago sativa (alfalfa). It is a significant concern for farmers and agronomists, as it compromises both the yield and the nutritional quality of the forage harvested from infected fields over several growing seasons.
