Alphachrysovirus verticillii is a type of mycovirus that specifically infects the fungal pathogen Verticillium dahliae. This fungus is a major threat to global agriculture, causing severe vascular wilt diseases in a wide variety of economically important plants such as cotton, potatoes, and tomatoes.

From a biological perspective, this virus contains double-stranded RNA and belongs to the Chrysoviridae family. It exists and replicates within the fungal host, effectively modifying the host's metabolism and virulence. This interaction is known as hypovirulence, where the virus reduces the pathogenic capacity of the fungus.

The hosts impacted by the primary fungal pathogen include various vegetables and perennial crops. While the virus itself does not directly infect the plant, its presence in the Verticillium population alters the progression of plant disease, often leading to reduced symptom severity in crops grown in infected fields.
