Alfalfa alphacytorhabdovirus (Alphacytorhabdovirus alphamedicagonis) is a viral pathogen known to affect various leguminous crops, with alfalfa being the primary host. As a member of the Rhabdoviridae family, this virus causes systemic infections that severely impair plant physiology, interfering with nutrient uptake and overall development.
The virus primarily impacts Medicago sativa (alfalfa). It persists in perennial plant reservoirs and is effectively transmitted by insect vectors. Aphids are recognized as the main vectors, acquiring the virus during feeding and spreading it across the fields as they move from plant to plant.
