The primary host for this virus is maize (Zea mays). The virus is known for causing systemic infections that can lead to significant economic losses in commercial corn production by impairing both vegetative growth and grain filling processes.
Visible symptoms of the infection include a distinct golden or yellow discoloration of the leaves, generalized chlorosis, and mottled patterns on the foliage.
