Yam badnavirus (Badnavirus etadioscoreae) is a viral plant pathogen belonging to the Caulimoviridae family. As a double-stranded DNA virus, it poses a significant threat to agricultural stability by causing persistent, systemic infections in host plants. Its ability to integrate into the host genome makes it particularly difficult to manage in field conditions.

The primary host for this virus is the yam (Dioscorea spp.), a globally important root crop. Infections lead to physiological disruption, impairing the plant's ability to allocate nutrients to the tubers. Because yams are propagated vegetatively, the virus can easily become endemic within a farming area, as infected tubers serve as primary reservoirs for future outbreaks.
