Kalanchoe macula virus is a viral disease caused by a species of the genus Badnavirus, which belongs to the Caulimoviridae family. These plant-infecting viruses are characterized by a double-stranded DNA genome and are known to be persistent, often remaining latent within the plant tissue for extended periods.
The primary host for this pathogen is Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and its various cultivars. The virus poses a significant economic threat to commercial greenhouse operations, as it directly affects the aesthetic appeal and overall vitality of the plants, often rendering entire batches unsaleable.
Symptoms of the infection typically include chlorotic spotting, mosaic patterns on the foliage, and leaf distortion.
