Asystasia mosaic virus (Begomovirus asystasiae) is a member of the genus Begomovirus within the Geminiviridae family. As a viral plant pathogen, it contains single-stranded DNA and causes significant physiological disruption in host plants, leading to systemic infections that impact overall plant health.

The virus primarily affects plants in the Acanthaceae family, most notably Asystasia gangetica. While the host range is often focused on specific ornamental and wild species, the potential for these viruses to cross into other crops makes them a concern for agricultural productivity and biodiversity in tropical and subtropical regions.

Symptoms of infection are usually characterized by distinctive mosaic patterns, chlorosis, and crinkling or deformation of leaves. Stunting is a common consequence of the infection, resulting in decreased biomass and reduced flowering, which renders ornamental plants commercially inviable and weakens susceptible crops.

The transmission of this virus occurs exclusively through insect vectors, with the silverleaf whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) being the primary agent.
