As a typical begomovirus, it possesses a bipartite or monopartite circular ssDNA genome and relies heavily on its insect vectors for transmission between host plants in agricultural and natural environments.
The host range of this virus primarily includes members of the Acanthaceae family, notably Asystasia gangetica. However, as agriculture intensifies, there is an increasing risk of this virus jumping to economically significant crops, posing a threat to food security in regions where host plants and vectors coexist.
Typical diagnostic symptoms are characterized by severe mosaic patterns, vein yellowing, and leaf curling.
